"what lies beneath"
A LOOK BACK AT OUR WORK
Subtext Theater Company (STC) in partnership with the Irish American Heritage Center (IAHC) present a very special presentation of A BUMP ON THE LEG by Leigh Johnson. Jonathan "Rocky" Hagloch brings to life in this one-man production of Jim Mallon's extraordinary trip to Our Lady of Lourdes, France when he was but a boy of age nine to be bathed in the healing waters in the hopes for a miracle to cure the cancerous tumor inside his leg. STC first presented Jim's story as a staged reading at Chief O'Neill's in November of 2019 and then as a full-length stage play at St. Bonaventure’s basement theatre in March of 2023. Now Rocky has brought Jim's barfly character back to life in this touching tale using multimedia flashback scenes from the 2023 production. This special fund-raiser will be performed on Friday, January 9th, 2026, at the Irish American Heritage Center, 4626 N Knox Ave. Chicago, IL. In the Shanachie Room on the first floor Room 109. Guests are encouraged to visit the Fifth Province Pub before the performance and bring in a pint to enjoy during the presentation which will begin at 7:00 pm. Jim Mallon himself will be on hand for a Q&A following the performance and he will also be happy to sell and sign his autobiography, Frightened Pilgrim, From Ireland to America with a miracle in between. Proceeds raised from the production will be split between Subtext Theater Company and the Irish American Heritage Center. Tickets will be on sale soon and will be sold through the IAHC website and are $30.00 for adults, $25.00 for Seniors, students and members of the IAHC. To visit the IAHC website click here.
