Hound of the Baskervilles - Holmes

"what lies beneath"

This is from 1994's The Hound of the Baskervilles directed by one of the St. Sebastian Players founding members Jim Masini who is a real fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's books and he knew exactly what he wanted from this character. I had a tendency to show more emotion, taking pleasure in my (Holmes) superior observations and intellect, I kept giving little smiles and Jim was having none of it, he would "wipe that smile off of my face" and through his direction created one of my all time favorite roles/characters. In this scene I am teamed up with Dawn Marie Fletcher who was the self declared "first lady of the stage". Dawn was a delight to work with. By the way Jim took to the page a few years later adapting two of Doyles Holmes mysteries into a set of one acts where I got to reprieve my role as Holmes once again. I was always a fan of Jeremy Brett portrayal of Sherlock but stayed away from channeling his character. Of course at this time no one knew who Benedict Cumberbatch was and Robert Downey Jr was that actor that was always getting into trouble.
