"what lies beneath"

From the play Bus Stop performed in 1993 with the Saint Sebastian Players. Virgil was inspired by gravel voiced actor James Gammon. I wasn't certain that director Jill Chukerman Test was going to let me continue using the voice but she never pulled me back! I got to roll my own cigarettes (back when I smoked and you could actually smoke on stage), but this proved challenging as I have very poor eyesight and usually do not wear glasses on stage so pulling the pouch from my breast pocket, pulling out a rolling paper and getting the tobacco into the paper and rolled up? Well let's just say sometimes it burned more than smoked. The big bushy mustache was made from my own hair which I asked for as it was swept  up off the floor as there is no way I could have grown that on my own, again the mustache was inspired by James Gammon as he usually sported one in all of his roles. I also got to play my guitar on stage as the character which is always a treat for me. Once again I did double duty as set designer for this production as well, This is one of my "borrowed" sets, the bar stools and drink dispensers came from Theater II and the phone booth was donated by the Lakeview club which was an Italian club a few blocks away. The ugly orange booths were actually in the basement as we moved into our new home, I was just waiting for a show to use them in.
